Taz is a 1997 palomino quarter horse, lovingly referred to as “Yellow.” He has spent the last ten years of his life as a hunter, although he got his start in the halter horse world. Tazzy ended his last show season with a reserve champion at HITS Saugerties, and made his hunter derby debut in November 2014. He has been a teacher to many young riders, spending some time in the short stirrup and pre-children’s ring while simultaneously showing in the adult divisions. Although he may not be the biggest horse in the show ring, his tight knees, forward ears, and happy disposition certainly make him stand out in the crowd. Oh, and being yellow might also help. 🙂
When he isn’t hard at work, jumping sticks, Tazzy enjoys snacking on twizzlers, rolling in the mud, and taking his mid-morning snooze. To keep things interesting, he enjoys wearing the occasional western saddle to chase down a run-away cow, and galloping along a trail with the wind whistling in his ears. Yellow has had a long successful career in the show ring, and has always exceeded expectations. From showmanship to cross country schooling and everything in between, he has always been a willing partner in every venture.
Although this next chapter in his life has been unplanned, we are handling it as it comes. Our first and most important battle is getting him comfortable and stable with the help of our wonderful vet and farrier. As time progresses, we will have a better understanding of his prognosis. In the meantime, we’re enjoying every new day we’ve been blessed to have him. #teamtazzy is tazzy strong. 🙂
